Awqaf Minister Emphasizes Need for Moderate Religious Discourse to Address Regional Challenges

Irbid: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Khalayleh, has called for the establishment of a "moderate and wise" approach to religious discourse to enhance societal awareness amid the region's current challenges. During his recent meeting with imams and muezzins at the First Irbid Awqaf Directorate, Khalayleh emphasized the collective responsibility of preserving the nation's security and stability through a conscious religious discourse that fosters unity and serves both religion and country, steering clear of extremism and fanaticism.

According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Khalayleh warned against being influenced by hasty fatwas or uncontrolled calls that could lead societies into chaos. He stressed the importance of knowledge, wisdom, and a careful assessment of interests and consequences when dealing with major issues. Khalayleh highlighted the need to differentiate between personal convictions and evidence-based religious rule.

He urged adherence to approved Friday sermon themes while allowing preachers a degree of disciplined interpretation. Additionally, Khalayleh cautioned against spreading rumors or unverified information from social media in mosques, as this misleads the public and constitutes a grave sin.

On an administrative level, Khalayleh called for maintaining the integrity of public service, which is both a religious and national responsibility, and fostering values of employee loyalty and discipline. He advocated for a serious review of performance and steps to strengthen a work ethic, warning against the dangers of leaking official documents or defaming institutions through social media, actions he described as breaches of professional trust that damage the reputation of institutions and the nation.
