North al batinah: Forty-nine agreements worth RO 1,192,016 were signed today in North Al Batinah Governorate for the restoration and maintenance of 64 aflaj (ground water systems) damaged during the recent "Al Masarrat" low-pressure.

According to Oman News Agency, the signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Suleiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, and attended by Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Marshoodi, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate, among other officials.

Eng. Nasser Al Marshoodi stated that the agreements aim to support the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in maintaining the important function of aflaj. These systems are crucial for water resources and are directly linked to sustaining agricultural activity and supporting the well-being of local communities.

Al Marshoodi further explained that the maintenance programme covers 76 aflaj, with 12 scheduled for repair in the first phase and 64 in the second phase. The project represents a significant investment in water infrastructure and highlights the economic, social, and environmental importance of aflaj in the governorate's wilayats.
