Ibri:The Directorate General of Agriculture and Water Resources in A'Dhahirah Governorate has initiated campaigns to combat the red palm weevil and control its spread throughout the Governorate. This effort involves an integrated pest management project focusing on villages in the wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul, and Dhank.
According to Oman News Agency, the launch ceremony took place at A'Dhahirah Municipality Hall in the Wilayat of Ibri. The event was attended by Tahir bin Mabkhout Al Junaibi, Governor of A'Dhahirah, and Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture.
Statistics indicate a significant reduction in infested palm trees, from 23,106 in 2022 to 3,126 in 2025, demonstrating the effectiveness of initiatives by government departments and the local community in managing the pest's spread.
