Muscat: Abraj Energy Services has entered into a strategic agreement with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to supply six onshore drilling rigs for Concession Area 6, a vital component of Oman’s energy infrastructure. The drilling operations are anticipated to commence gradually from the fourth quarter of 2026. This significant expansion in collaboration between Abraj and PDO underscores Abraj’s reputation for operational efficiency and its ability to deliver competitive, safe, and high-performance drilling solutions that meet international standards.
According to Oman News Agency, Houd Khalfan Al Barashdi, Acting Director of Business Development at Abraj Energy Services, emphasized that this agreement reaffirms the company’s operational excellence and the trust it has garnered from providing reliable and efficient services. With its advanced fleet and technical expertise, Abraj is expanding its operations with PDO to achieve shared objectives, playing a crucial role in enhancing the oil and energy sector and boosting in-country value.
In line with its ongoing expansion efforts, Abraj has also signed an additional contract with BP Oman for drilling services in Concession Area 61 and secured a new contract with ARA Petroleum LLC to drill three wells in Concession Area 44. Moreover, in the Wafra Joint Operations field between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Abraj has expanded its operations by signing a contract for a third 3000-horsepower drilling rig. These developments reflect Abraj’s regional growth strategy and its bolstered position in key oil and gas projects across the region.
Eng. Sulaiman Abdullah Al Salmi, Team Leader of Gas Well Drilling at Petroleum Development Oman, highlighted that the strategic partnership with Abraj underscores a continuous commitment to PDO’s operational, health, and safety standards. This agreement further solidifies the joint commitment of both entities to advance Oman’s oil and energy sectors through innovative and safe solutions that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
Since 2020, Abraj has contributed over RO 850 million towards in-country value, achieving an Omanization rate of approximately 93 percent. Operations related to PDO alone have generated RO 79.1 million in local value over the past three years, illustrating Abraj’s dedication to aligning with national priorities and its significant role in the development of Oman’s oil and energy sectors.
Abraj concluded 2024 with strong operational and financial results, reporting revenues of RO 151.6 million, an operating profit before interest, taxes, and depreciation (EBITDA) of RO 53 million, and a net profit after tax of RO 16.9 million. The company also achieved exceptional occupational health and safety metrics, maintaining three consecutive years with no incidents or lost-time injuries across all operational units. Drilling rigs achieved utilization rates exceeding 86 percent, while well maintenance rigs reached 100 percent, showcasing the enduring resilience of Abraj’s operations and the profound trust of its partners.
