22 Dead Due to Floods, Landslides in Northeastern India

Guwahati: At least 22 people were dead in several northeastern Indian states over the past 48 hours due to flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains. Official statistics in India indicate that five people, including three members of one family, were dead after their homes were buried in a landslide in Guwahati city in Assam state.

According to Oman News Agency, in the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh, seven people were dead after their vehicle was swept away by floods, while two others drowned in a separate incident in the same state. In the past 24 hours, eight people were dead in the states of Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, as a result of floods and landslides caused by rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department expects more heavy rainfall in the coming days.
