Nyon, The draw for the first UEFA Champions
League knockout round will take place next Monday at midday in Nyon,
Switzerland with many of Europe’s elite awaiting their fate.
There are only two conditions that determine the draw: no team
can play a side they shared a group with, or any side from the same
country.
In one pot will be the group winners (Borussia Dortmund,
Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Porto, Bayern Munich,
Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid) while the runners-up
(Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Liverpool, Schalke, Ajax, Lyon, Roma and
Manchester United) will be in another.
As was true of last season, the Last 16 will be played across
four dates: February 12/13; February 19/20; March 5/6; and March
12/13.
Real Madrid will be particularly watchful for the names of
Manchester United and Liverpool, with both Premier League clubs
finishing second in their respective groups.
Both English sides also pose a threat for Barcelona, who topped
their group, as well as Madrid while the Catalans will also be wary of
being reunited with Roma after their collapse at the Stadio Olimpico
last season.
Atletico Madrid will be hoping to meet Porto and,
simultaneously, will be desperate to avoid Paris Saint-Germain (PSG),
Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester City, the Spanish MARCA
newspaper reported.
