Muscat, The Research Council (TRC), represented by the Strategic

Research Program for the Omani Cultural Heritage, in cooperation with the Omani National

Commission for Education, Culture and Science, held today an orientation seminar at

Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science on a project about studying the

Omani personalities involved in trade and industry with local, Arab and international

participation, in addition to the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha.

The seminar was sponsored by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan al-Toobi, Advisor to the

Ministry of Education.

Nasser bin Hamdan al-Ismaili, Executive Coordinator of the Strategic Research Program

for the Omani Cultural Heritage at TRC delivered a speech in which he discussed the

objectives of the program and the stages of its establishment and its supporting bodies, in

addition to the projects adopted by the program in the current five-year plan.

For his part, Dr. Humaid bin Saif al-Nuwafli, Director of the Culture Sector at the Omani

National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, said that the prosperous nations

and the conscious peoples are drawing their strength from their ancient history and build

their future from the achievements of their past.

The seminar contained two sessions. The first was scientific about the Omani

personalities involved in trade and industry. The second session included a number of

papers on the project and maritime trade in Oman through the ages, in addition to the

activities of trade and industry in the cities of Oman through the ages, the mechanism of

studying historical figures engaged in trade, and how to employ them in cultural strategies

and development plans in educational curricula.

At the end of the sessions, the sponsor of the event honored the participants in the

seminar.
