New Delhi, The Sultanate won the Best
International Destination Award for Adventure Tourism 2018 at the
annual awards’ ceremony granted by the Travel and Leisure magazine
for its readers and followers in the Indian and South Asian tourism
markets.
The award was received by Lubaina Sheerazi, Head of the
Tourism Representation Office of the Sultanate in India during the
annual awards ceremony organised by the Travel and Leisure
magazine in the presence of senior officials, specialists of Indian
tourism companies and agencies.
Sheerazi said that the Sultanate’s winning the award came due
to its unique eco-tourist attractions. The Sultanate managed to attract
174,000 visitors from India during the first six months of 2018, an
increase of 15 percent compared to the same period last year. She
hoped to see larger numbers of travelers coming from India to discover
the Sultanate.
She added that the Sultanate enjoys many elements of
environmental tourism, which enriches the tourism adventure and
provides diverse, distinct tourist experience in exploring the natural
caves and mountains, visiting springs and valleys, sailing, diving and
seeing coral reef, sand dunes and camping in the desert, among other
activities that give fun and adventure in each journey.
She pointed out that the Indian tourism market is one of the
emerging markets in the export of tourists to the Sultanate due to the
historic relations between the two countries and facilitating visa
procedures approved recently by the Sultanate for a number of
countries, including India, as well as the unique location of the
Sultanate of Oman and its proximity and direct daily flights between
Muscat and several Indian cities.
Travel and Leisure magazine grants annual awards to various
tourism sectors. Its readers and followers in the Indian and South Asian
tourism market vote over three months to choose the best destinations,
hotels, airlines and tourism products of their choice during the year.
