Istanbul, The death toll from a train derailment in

the northern Turkish province of Tekirdag has risen to 24, Anadolu

Agency reported.

Five coaches of a 362-passenger train and a six-member crew,

were off the track yesterday (Sunday).

At least 73 people were taken to hospitals and about 100

ambulances and helicopters were sent to the scene.

The train was on its way to Istanbul when it overturned near the

village of Sarilar in Tekirdag province.

The Anadolu Agency quoted the Transport Ministry as saying

the cause of the accident was heavy rains and a landslide near the

tracks.
