Muscat, The Supreme Council of Planning (SCP)
held its fourth meeting this year under the chair of Dr. Ali bin Masoud
al-Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, SCP Deputy Chairman.
The Council reviewed the Oman Economic Performance Report.
The report showed that the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by
15.1 percent at the current prices, driven by the increase in total oil
activities, especially natural gas activities, which grew by 23.2 percent.
On the other hand, the contribution of non-oil sectors increased during
the same period by (5.1%).
The Council discussed the progress of the development projects
and the achievements in development projects within the framework of
the Ninth Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020), including the
economic diversification projects until October of this year, as well as
the executive steps and procedures taken for the strategic projects
adopted by the Council, and means to address the challenges facing
the implementation of some of these projects and the steps taken by
the Secretariat of the Council on the National Urban Development
Strategy.
The Council approved the mechanism of integration between the
strategic and development projects being implemented in the
Governorate of South Al Batinah and the necessary measures to
ensure comprehensive and sustainable development through these
projects.
The Council also reviewed outputs of the National Strategy for
Adaptation and Mitigation of Climate Change as it deals with the
climate change in an integrative manner. The council stresses its
support for the outputs of this strategy and taking them into
consideration within the framework of the National Urban Development
Strategy.
The Council also discussed a number of other topics and took
appropriate decisions on their regards.
