Muscat, The International Cricket World Cup will
arrive in the Sultanate on Monday (August 27th) for a two-day tour.
“The choice of the International Cricket Council to present the
historic World Cup in the region as part of its global tour is a
recognition of the Sultanate as a leading force and one of the fastest
growing countries to achieve progress in cricket in the region,” said
Pankaj Khimji, board member of the Oman Cricket Federation and the
Sultanate’s representative to the International Cricket Council.
He pointed out that the achievements of the national cricket team
and the series of wonderful performances presented in international
tournaments over recent years which have played a major role in
attracting global attention to the Sultanate.
“The arrival of the World Cup to the Sultanate is an important event
as part of preparations for this important tournament to be held in
England from May 30 to July 14 next year. This historic development
will inspire many young people, where it will go a long way towards
attracting more youngsters to practice the game.” said Madhu Gisrani,
Secretary of the Oman Cricket Federation.
The Cricket World Cup organized by the International Cricket
Council is one of the leading cricket events. It is watched and followed
by more than 1 billion people around the world as 105 countries are
currently members of the International Cricket Council.
