Geneva, Dr. Ahmed bin Salim al-Mandhari, senior
consultant physician and Director General of Quality Assurance Center
at the Ministry of Health was nominated as the Regional Director of
Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization
(WHO-EMRO), which includes 22 countries.
The elections held in Geneva at the WHO’ headquarters in the
presence of the WHO Director-General, the ministers in the Region
along with a number of permanent delegates to the United Nations in
the Region.
Electing the Sultanate’s candidate affirms the efficiency of the
Omani Cadres, as well as the respect and appreciation enjoyed by the
Sultanate in the international levels.
Seven countries competed in this position, two countries came out
from the shortlist, and five countries competed for the position. The
Omani candidate got the highest votes.
This achievement is the first of its kind for the Sultanate due to the
efforts and the regional and international recognition.
It is worth mentioning that the credentials of the elected candidate
will be presented at the session of the Executive Board, which will be
held on May 27, 2018.
