Muscat, The State Council discussed today the draft law of the Living Aquatic Wealthtransferred by the Council of Ministers, the report of the Economic Committee of the Council, the report of Majlis A’Shura on it at its 10th ordinary session of the 3rd annual sitting of the 6thterm under the chair of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh al- Manthri, Chairman of the State Council.

The Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Council presented a statement of the Committee on the draft law of the Living Aquatic Wealth, noting that the main features included in the draft law is to change the name of the law from Sea Fishing and the Protection of l Living Aquatic Wealth to the Living Aquatic Wealth Law, explaining in this regard that the concept of the name of the old law goes in application on aquatic resources , while the new name of the law includes, besides living aquatic resources, other activities related to fishing activities, such as transport, marketing, processing, export, farming and other activities related to the fishing profession.

The meeting witnessed extensive discussions by the members of the Council, stressing the importance of the draft law in strengthening the national economy, considering that the fisheries sector is one of the most promising sectors in the success of the Sultanate’s orientations towards economic diversification.

The Council will discuss tomorrow at its 11th session the 3rd annual sitting of the 6th term the proposal by the Committee on Culture, Media and Tourism on the challenges facing traditional crafts and ways of addressing them, in addition to reviewing the reports on the work of the Council
