London, Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh al-Manthri, Chairman of the State Council, stressed the important role played by the Omani-British Association (OBA) in developing relations between the two friendly countries.
The Chairman of the State Council said in a statement at OBA headquarters today within the framework of his current official visit to the United Kingdom that OBA has contributed to more than four decades in deepening the historical ties between the two countries and expanding areas of cooperation through the implementation of many activities and events.
He called upon the new generation group at OBA to work to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between the Sultanate and Britain through periodic meetings, and to develop platforms for exchanging ideas and knowledge and exploring new and innovative horizons for cooperation in various fields, especially in scientific and research aspects.
The visit of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh al-Manthri, Chairman of the State Council and his accompanying delegation to OBA included a meeting with Lord Jeffrey James Deer, Vice- President of the House of Lords, Lord Richard Nabire Lewis and Baroness Francis de Souza where he discussed with them OBA achievements and its future plans.
The Chairman of the State Council and the accompanying delegation visited the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), where they were received by the CEO of WFD Anthony Smith and the Regional Director for Asia, Middle East and North Africa Dina Melham.
He and the accompanying delegation were briefed on the activities of the Foundation and its role in strengthening parliaments in the countries of Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, as well as supporting civil society institutions.
