Muscat, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) organized the ‘First Scientific Research Conference’ under the patronage of Sheikh SalIm bin Mustuhail al- Mashani, Advisor at the Diwan of Royal Court.
The conference, which aims at undergraduate and postgraduate students from all colleges and majors at the university, seeks to enhance the culture of scientific research with the opportunity to present their research, inventions and scientific works, and to encourage them to read, and keep abreast of everything.
The total number of participants in the conference was 30, which dealt with the scientific and humanitarian fields, including evaluating the performance of an innovative system for pulling out Al Mabsali Dates, extract isotopes from Omani frankincense in the treatment of cancer cells, testing a new method of treatment of stomach cancer, the environmental effects of springs in Al Ansab area and the role of parents in improving school performance for their children.
Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim al- Mahrouqiyah, SQU Vice- Chancellor’s Deputy for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, delivered a speech in which she stressed that SQU recognizes the importance of scientific research in accomplishing achievements in other key areas including creativity, innovation, teaching and learning in the undergraduate and graduate levels, which is clearly emphasized in its strategic plan.
The conference included a panel discussion on the research and how the research idea is born, its impact on society, how the university helped the student to spread his thesis, the study trips in terms of challenges and difficulties, and tips for new researchers.
The conference was attended by SQU Vice- Chancellor, a number of excellencies, academics and university students.
