Madrid, VAR worked wonderfully well for the most

part at the 2018 World Cup, and the technology has now made its

debut in Spanish football.

It took under 10 minutes for the system to be utilised during

Sunday’s Supercopa de Espana when Pablo Sarabia’s opening goal

was ruled out for offside by one of the linesmen.

The Spanish midfielder was adjudged to have run beyond the

Barcelona defensive line too early, yet the VAR replays showed Gerard

Pique to be playing him onside.

Sarabia finished his chance wonderfully well with the side of his left

foot, handing the Andalusian side an early lead in Morocco.

Many were sceptical about the introduction of VAR into LaLiga

ahead of the 2018/19 season, but in its first use the technology has

seen the correct decision reached, the MARCA said.
