Salalah: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is undertaking a series of road maintenance and rehabilitation projects in Dhofar Governorate, with an investment exceeding RO 14 million. These projects, covering a total span of approximately 168 kilometers, aim to improve the road network infrastructure and bolster traffic safety.
According to Oman News Agency, the Ministry has successfully completed one project earlier this year and anticipates the completion of four additional projects by the end of 2026. A sixth project is slated for completion in early 2027, followed by a seventh in mid-2028. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance road infrastructure efficiency across the governorate.
Eng. Said Mohammed Tabook, Director General of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, remarked that the Ministry finalized the maintenance and rehabilitation of the (Tawi Ateer - Wadi Rakhah - Jibjat) road in the first quarter of this year. This segment extends for 30 kilometers and was completed at a cost of RO 1,280,000.
Eng. Said further mentioned ongoing work on the (Madinat Al Haq - Jabal Yoor - Tawi Ateer - Wadi Darbat) road rehabilitation, covering 42 kilometers and estimated at RO 1,953,000. The project is roughly 40 percent complete. Additionally, the Ministry is progressing on the (Al Maamoura - Taqah) dual carriageway rehabilitation, a 22-kilometer stretch costing RO 1,500,000, expected to conclude by November 2026.
Another significant undertaking is the (Taqah - Madinat Al Haq) road project in the Wilayat of Taqah, stretching 24 kilometers and costing approximately RO 1,570,000, with completion projected for the fourth quarter of 2026.
In Dhofar's western region, the Ministry has finished constructing a 20-kilometer coastal dirt road linking the Wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut, costing RO 700,000. This road facilitates vehicle passage through mountainous terrain and reduces travel distance by about 40 kilometers. Future phases of this project are undergoing budgeting procedures to align with development goals and enhance the road network quality.
Eng. Said noted progress on the (Hafouf - Khadrafi) asphalt road maintenance and the (Anatokh) slope improvement, with construction works over 80 percent complete, costing over RO 2 million, and expected to finish by late 2026.
The Ministry is also addressing side slopes for the Khadrafi - Sarfait and Khadrafi - Dhalkut roads, aiming to rehabilitate these roads with a total length of 8 kilometers at a cost of RO 5 million. This entails slope stabilization and reinforcement to mitigate landslide risks, enhancing road stability and user safety, with an expected completion by mid-2028.
These projects reflect the Ministry's commitment to developing Dhofar's road network, improving traffic safety, and fostering sustainable development, alongside boosting economic and tourism activities. The projects adhere to high technical and engineering standards, supporting Oman Vision 2040's infrastructure and sustainable transport objectives.
