Muscat, The Board of the Research Council

today held its second meeting for 2019 under the chair of Sayyid

Shihab bin Tariq al-Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan, Chairman

of the Council.

The Board discussed a range of topics on its agenda, as well as a

number of reports related to the various programs and projects of the

Council.

The Board reviewed the developments of the national strategy for

scientific research and development 2020-2040, the stages of the

project through various specialized teams and workshops that

discussed the work outputs and efforts to align with the priorities of the

strategy with the Oman Vision 2020-2040 and integration with the

various sectoral strategies of the concerned institutions concerned, in

addition to presenting the next steps until the draft strategy document

is submitted for approval in December 2019.

The Board also reviewed a report on the supporting institutional

research program, based on efficiency and its effectiveness after its

application in its new form, which was previously adopted by the

Research Council through the restructuring of the program of open

research grants at its second meeting in 2018. The program funded 21

academic and research institutions last year. Currently, it is studying

the support proposals for this year.

On the other hand, a presentation was made on the progress of

the strategic research program of the Social Observatory Research by

reviewing the work outputs on the research project on youth values.

The Board was also briefed on the developments of the

organizational restructuring project of the Research Council's

Secretariat General, which aims to develop the efficiency of the

performance of the various programs and projects of the Council to

cope with the requirements of the current and future stage.
