Mexico City,A powerful earthquake has struck the Pacific coast of Mexico, close to the resort of Acapulco.
The magnitude-seven quake was also felt strongly around 370km (230 miles) away in Mexico City, sending residents and tourists spilling into the streets from homes and hotels.
Power cuts were reported in several states and there was damage as the quake shook hillsides around Acapulco.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that there that there were no reports of major damage across the country.
A huge earthquake struck the Mexican capital in 1985, killing at least 10,000 people, BBC news reported.
