New York, A man was killed in a rare attack by a

polar bear in northern Canada. A 31-year-old unarmed man was

pronounced dead at the scene after police were summoned, the Royal

Canadian Police said in a statement.

The man was attacked on an island near Arviat, northern Canada,

while protecting his children from the bear, where the children fled and

asked for help from a boat they were using.

Polar bears attacks are rare, with only 20 fatal attacks on people

between 1870 and 2014.
