MUSCAT, Oman, Oman’s Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), received more than 1,000 child abuse cases, in the first six months this year.

Of the total cases, 387 were reported on the toll-free hotline number 1100, which was launched last year.

As many as 646 cases reported were handled by the concerned committees, in various governorates of the sultanate.

Negligence cases stood at 176, as one of the top categories of abuses reported.

This was followed by physical (106), psychological (54) and sexual abuse (51) cases.

A ministry official said that, the maximum number of cases were reported in Muscat (250), followed by North Batinah (125), South Batinah (53), Dakhliyah (46), Dhahirah (45), North Sharqiyah (41), Buraimi (35), South Sharqiyah (22), Musandam (22), Dhofar (6) and Al Wusta (1).
