ONA, ANI Sign MoU on News Exchange

Muscat, The Ministry of Information, represented by Oman News Agency (ONA) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Asian News International (ANI) in the field of exchanging news and information.

The MoU was signed at the premises of the Indian embassy here by Ibrahim Saif Al Azri, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of ONA, and Amit Narang, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Sultanate of Oman. The ceremony was attended by Shri V. Muraleedharan, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs.

The MoU provides for cooperation in receiving images, videos and news bulletins in English, as well as exchanging visits of experts and conducting training courses and scholarly research on news and features.

Muraleedharan welcomed the MoU which, he said, would boost news content and enable the two sides to exchange expertise and tap each other’s resources to help keep pace with modern technology applied in the field—with digital media gaining grounds every day and allowing more transparency.

Muraleedharan also lauded the advanced level of relations between Oman and India.

Meanwhile, Al Azri said that the MoU would consolidate media action and provide a distinguished news content benefiting subscribers on either side, offering them a wide spectrum from new sources.

Al Azri explained that the MoU is deemed an edict that warrants access to accurate news reported by ONA and ANI. The MoU will eventually contribute to enhancing relations in the media, he added.

Earlier, ONA signed a number of agreements and memoranda with Arab and foreign news agencies, with the prime aim of providing a broad range of content—news, images and videos.
