The Ministry of Tourism and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) Company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop sustainable tourism activities at Al Haqaf site in the Governorate of Al Wusta, as a tourism sector initiative, to encourage private investment in natural sites and reserves, as part of the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification.
The MoU sets forth the joint cooperation between the Ministry and the Company, in relation to the development of activities to achieve sustainable tourism development at Al Haqaf with the commitment to promote and develop the principles of sustainable development of the geological heritage and geological tourism at this site, which is one of the three main sites in the first phase that the initiative to encourage private investment in natural sites and reserves focuses on.
The memorandum included items related to cooperation between the two parties, to establish a model known as geological parks and to promote Al Haqaf, exchange of experiences and training of staff and guides on the used devices and systems, benefit from the database and maps of the company, develop a high quality geological tourist product, involve the community in the development of tourism activities, which starts from this site with the possibility of expanding to other locations in the Governorate of Al Wusta.
