Muscat, Primary courts in the governorates of South Al Batinah, Musandam, South A’Sharqiyah and Dhofar issued verdicts during the period from 24 November to 3 December 2020 convicting a number of people who violated the decisions of the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The legal action was initiated by the Public Prosecution Department, which ambushed the 42 suspects as they breached the ban on nighttime movement and gathering or failed to wear face masks. The convicts were handed down sentences ranging from three-month jail, ordered to pay fines of RO 1000 and, in the case of expats, ordered to quit the country after serving the sentences.
