Muscat, The Omani Cancer Association(OCA) organized yesterday the 15th Annual Walkathon under the patronage of Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd al- Said, Assistant Secretary General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, in the presence of Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour al- Hasani, Minister of Information, and the participation of more than 8500 participants of citizens and residents of both sexes, children and adults, where everyone participated in walking around the park for a distance of 2.5 kilometers, wearing walkathon T-shirts with OCA logo and the theme of the day ” I Care” preceded by the awareness banners.
In his speech, Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd al- Said emphasized the importance of this event, the 15th annual walkathon, organized by OCA, to promote awareness and understanding of cancer control, and that everyone is supportive in promoting cancer awareness initiatives in the Sultanate, from the government in all sectors to launch awareness campaigns aimed at educating the community about the importance of healthy nutrition and conducting early periodic examinations for early detection of the disease.
praised the efforts and initiatives of OCA, pointing out to the efforts exerted by honorable Youthar al- Rawahiya, founder of OCA, in disease control and her participation in raising awareness about the disease, locally, regionally and internationally. He also thanked supporters of OCA of institutions and individuals and its members from all sectors.
In her speech, Youthar al- Rawahiya, founder and honorary chairperson of OCA, praised the importance of the event and the annual walkathon, stressing the importance of the need to support cancer awareness programs and initiatives, in addition to supporters of this category. She also praised solidarity with the annual walkathon by all sectors in order to achieve the planned targets.
The 15th Annual Walkathon Program included a series of awareness presentations and shows, special corners for kids through painting and coloring, and many events that focused on raising awareness and integrating children with the awareness campaign and the annual goals of the walkathon.
