The National Heart Center at the Royal Hospital managed to perform a procedure to insert a subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillator (S-ICD) for a 26-year patient with cardiac insufficiency condition. The device is placed under skin yet has no wires connecting the heart.

The transplantation procedure was performed by NHC's Electrocardiography team with the assistance of specialized team from the manufacturing company as well hospital's anesthetic, nursing, and technical personnel.

The patient was suffering from a life-threatening abnormal heart rhythm but having had other treatments to correct congenital heart defects in childhood obstructed the veins passage connecting the heart.
