Muscat— The National Bioethics Committee met
at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) today under the chair of Dr. Ali bin
Saud al-Bimani, SQU Vice Chancellor.
The fourth meeting discussed the documents prepared by the
Committee during the previous period and the procedures made by the
concerned bodies towards such documents, as well as the appropriate
mechanism to benefit from them by these bodies.
The meeting also discussed the developments of the second
international conference to be held in February 2020. It was agreed to
be entitled “Emerging Ethical and Legislative Issues in Biomedical and
Scientific Research,” which includes a range of themes related to the
existing legislative aspect of medical practices, research and
innovations, as well as non-legislative means of organization.
The meeting also discussed the proposals made regarding the
ninth intellectual forum organized annually by the Committee, as well
as discussing the Committee’s annual plan for 2019, including the
completion of ethical documents related to genetic materials and
scientific experiments on animals and plants.
