Muscat, The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is all set to

participate in five major international tourism exhibitions and gearing up

to organize several promotional programs in a number of tourism-

exporting countries during 2020.

This is as part of its efforts to promote the Sultanate's tourism

potentials and services and increase the share of tourism companies

and hotel establishments.

Among the most prominent international tourism exhibitions in which

the Sultanate will participate are the World Travel Market (WTM)

London and the Internationale Tourismus-B?rse (ITB) Berlin. In addition

to this, the ministry will organize workshops and events in a number of

tourism exporting markets, in a bid to explore tourism markets.

Anwar bin Said al-Balushi, Acting Director of Events at the Ministry

of Tourism, said that the Sultanate's presence in international tourism

forums is important for promotional purposes. These international

events attract a large number of exhibitors and visitors from all over the

world. They represent world's tourism industry, travel companies,

airlines, investors, government and private institutions and

representatives of relevant international organizations.

He pointed out that participation in international exhibitions help in

getting acquainted with the latest developments in the tourism sector

and learn from the world experiences for the advancement of the

sector. It also provides investors an opportunity for exchanging ideas

and information.

He said that the ministry will conclude its series of participation in

foreign exhibitions for this year with the World Travel Market Exhibition,

to be held between November 4 and 6. More than 21 tourism

establishments, including a number of small and medium enterprises

will be participating in the exhibition.

He added: The Sultanate will also participate in the ITB Berlin

2020 for which it was declared official partner. This will provide the

Sultanate an opportunity for wider promotions in the exhibition, social

media platforms, publications, and lounges of the largest exhibition of

the world.

The Sultanate's participation in international exhibitions aims at

introducing and promoting new tourism products and services in the

Sultanate. This will help increase the share of Omani companies and

institutions in the targeted markets, and improve relations with Omani

tourism institutions and tourism agents in these markets. It will further

enhance the image of the country as a major tourist destination in the

foreign markets. The Sultanate will also attend workshops and

conferences held on the sidelines of the exhibition.

Al Balushi explained that the Sultanate will participate in about five

international tourism exhibitions in 2020. They are ITB Berlin, ATM,

SeaTrade, IMEX and WTM. It will also participate in three mobile

workshops to be held in the Republic of China, Saudi Arabia and the

Russian Federation.

He said: "The ministry is in the process of organizing camping

exhibition for tourist companies specialized in tours and camping. This

will help in bringing the tourists and tour and camping companies

together. This step will also help in increasing the number of tourists

and tourist groups interested in camping from inside and outside the


Among the activities of the winter season is Spartan Reis

International event. It is one of the largest events organized in the

Sultanate in cooperation with the Spartan Reis Arabia and Shad

United. It will be held in the Governorate of Muscat in Jabal Al Sifah on

November 15 and 16. Thousands of participants from inside and

outside the Sultanate are expected to attend the event. It is also a

challenge for novice and professional competitors to showcase their

maximum physical potential and test their endurance.

The number of participants in the event during the previous season

was 2500. It is expected to increase to 3,000 this year.

Al Balushi added that the astronomical camp will be held on

December 26, in cooperation with the Oman Astronomical Society, to

observe an astronomical event called "annular solar eclipse", a rare

astronomical event which did not take place in 118 years. It will not be

repeated before 83 years.

Muscat Eat3 will be the second edition of the festival meant for

reviving Omani folk and traditional cuisines, in addition to many

delicious dishes from all over the world. The event will take place at Al

Mouj Golf Course, where the main festival will be accompanied by an

Omani food festival. It will be a three-day event to be held on

November 14-16. There will also be a three-day festival of food carts

on November 28-30. The main event "Muscat Eat3" will be held on

December 5 -7. It will also include theater show full of events,

competitions and artistic performances. The number of visitors to this

festival will reach 40,000.

In 2020, Iron Man event will be held in cooperation with the Middle

East Modern Triathlon Company. It is an event which combines three

sports, swimming for 2 km, bicycles ride for a distance of about 90 km

and running for ten kilometers. Women will also participate in an event

called Iran Woman.
