Muscat: Several governorates of Oman underwent major power disruption following a technical failure in one of the transmission lines of the network on Monday afternoon.
Officials at the Namaa Group said they have managed to restore power supply in most places. “Work is underway to restore full service,” he said.
In Muscat governorate, power was restored around 5.30pm.
Following the outage, traffic on the roads were badly affected as signals failed. The officials of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) were deployed to manually direct the traffic.
A sudden power outage also disrupted the flight movement at the Muscat International Airport.
Officials said the problem started at around 1:30pm when electricity supply was snapped in several governorates of Oman.
The power outage led to a major disturbance in the movement of vehicles at traffic lights, malls, government and private institutions, electricity and water stations, homes and shops.
Hassan bin Ali Al-Ajmi, director of commercial readiness at the group, said that work is underway to develop a clear strategy in risk management and investigate its causes to avoid this type of malfunction in the future.
Work at Oman Post branches and call centres were also disrupted following the power outage.
“As a result of the sudden power outage in the governorates of the Sultanate, we regret to inform you that our operations at Oman Post branches and the call centres are down until the outage is set right. Thank you and appreciate your continuous support and understanding,” Oman Post said in a statement.
Around 6:00pm, Oman Airports announced the return of full power to operations at Muscat International Airport, which were affected earlier as a result of power outage in the governorate.
