Muscat, Majlis Al Shura Office has held its 18th regular meeting of the third annual sitting (2017/2018) of the 8th term under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal al- Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura.
During the meeting it discussed a number of items listed on the agenda including the reply of the Council of Ministers on the desire of the Majlis to organize a panel discussion on ‘ Water Security in the Sultanate- the Challenges and Alternatives’. The reply welcomed organizing the session at the planned time for it.
The Office also reviewed the reply of Dr. Fouad bin Jaafar al- Sagwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries on the question addressed about organizing the planting of grass in the Governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Salalah plain in the Governorate of Dhofar. The reply gave a background about the optimum use of natural resources and the measures taken by the Ministry in this regard. It also provided the challenges that faced implementation and the Ministry’s views on the subject. It stressed the importance of foreign investment in the planting of grass to support the agricultural sector. The Office decided to list the topic on the agenda of the next meeting.
The Office also reviewed the letters from the permeant committees including the report of the education and scientific research committee on the science and mathematics chains.
It also reviewed the report of the Youth and Human Resources Committee on the desire to establish a center for monitoring the progress of implementation and quality assurance at the governmental agencies. The report included the methodology for making the said study and the conclusion which uphold the proposal subject. The Center will be under the Council of Ministers.
The committee recommended in the report the Center to publish its works to all state institutions including Majlis A’Shura. The inauguration of the Center should coincide with launching the Ministry of Civil Service scheme for assessment of the institutional and employee performance.
The meeting also reviewed the reports and letters of the parliamentary organizations incoming to it including the letter of the Secretariat General of the Arab Parliamentary Union about organizing an extraordinary session for the Union to discuss the latest developments on the Palestine arena and the massacres of the Israeli occupation authorities against the armless Palestinians.
