Justice Ministry Organizes Seminar on Penal Code

Muscat, The Ministry of Justice organized in cooperation with the Higher Judicial Institute today a seminar on the “Penal Code” issued by Royal Decree No.7/2018 under the patronage of Hamoud bin Faisal al- Busaidi, Minister of Interior and in the presence of Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah al-Khalili, Minister of Justice.

In a speech of the ministry during the opening of the seminar, Issa bin Hamad al-Azri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, said that the Omani Penal Code, which was issued in 1974 and continued in action for nearly half a century, was one of the oldest laws issued in the early days of the blessed Renaissance era led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.

The first session consisted of presenting two working papers. The first paper dealt with the features of the general section of the Penal Code and was presented by Dr. Khalid bin Salim al Saeedi, Secretary General of the State Council.

The second paper dealt with the main features of the Penal Code on the rules of criminal responsibility Articles 1-25 “and presented by Dr Hamdi Mohammed Mahmoud, Lecturer at the Higher Institute of Justice.
