IPA Organizes Specialized Meeting for Undersecretaries and Equivalents

Muscat, The Institute of Public Administration (IPA) organized a specialized meeting today for the undersecretaries and equivalents on “Strengthening the Governmental Institutional Performance “.

The aim of the meeting was to unify the visions and directions on the distribution of performance in the units of the administrative system of the state by focusing on a number of themes, the most important of which are the comparison of the traditional and modern role of governments, the required transformation, the challenges of enhancing government performance, the role of legislation, organizational intent, decision making and human capital strategies and policies.

Sheikh Khalid bin Omar al- Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service and Chairman of the Board of Directors of IPA said that the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said always emphasize on the need to strengthen the government agencies to perform and facilitate their services, stressing that the Sultanate is continuing, thanks to these directives in keeping with global developments in enhancing governmental performance.

He considered this meeting to be of importance through the examination of the most successful and recent experiences and international management practices, consultation and exchange of ideas and experiences in upgrading the governmental system of work, especially with the participation of more than 60 government officials from the administrative senior officials, at the level of undersecretaries and their equivalents.

For his part, Sayyid Zaki bin Hilal al- Busaidi, Executive Chairman of the IPA stressed the importance of this meeting with the presence of administrative senior officials from the undersecretaries and their equivalents. He pointed out that the meeting aims to review the roles of the current and future government institutions and what is required of them in the future and how to harness available resources now and leveraging them in enhancing institutional performance.

Dr. Khalif Ahmed al-Khawaldeh, the main speaker said in a press statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the meeting dealt with tools and means to enhance the institutional performance of the government, the modern role of governments, the challenges they face, how to shift in to a developmental role for government institutions in general and the axes of this promotion.

Dr. Al- Khawaldeh delivered a lecture on the challenges of enhancing governmental institutional performance, the traditional and modern role of governments, the themes of enhancing government performance, institutional culture, strategies and policies, as well as issues related to the promotion and challenges of government performance, institutional transformation, finance, procurement, property, legislation, organizational structure and decision-making.
