Muscat, The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) today signed a programme of cooperation and integration to tune the sector of higher education, research and innovation to current and future development plans of special economic zones and free zones.
The programme was signed by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and Dr. Ali Masoud al-Sunaidi, OPAZ Chairman.
The agreement provides that the Authority will furnish information about economic activities, companies operating in special and free zones, labour market needs, challenges posed to the labour market and its future growth and expected employment figures in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour.
OPAZ will also undertake the responsibility of providing training opportunities to undergraduates studying at universities and vocational colleges in areas corresponding to their specializations.
The Ministry and the Authority will cooperate in drafting a regulatory system for offering and distributing the training opportunities. In return, the Ministry will liaise with higher education institutions in the Sultanate about presenting research and obtaining consultations from OPAZ.
