Stockholm, Hip-hop star Grandmaster Flash won

the 2019 Polar music prize, the Swedish award which is the music

world’s equivalent of the Nobel IN the 1970s, Grandmaster Flash – real

name Joseph Saddler – formed a leading rap band with five other

artists.

The Rolling Stone magazine listed The Message 51st in its tally of

the 500 greatest songs of all time.

The song was the first about the difficult living conditions in New York

neighborhoods. In the early 1980s, hip-hop was restricted to festive

evenings.

The Polar Music prize, which aims to celebrate music in all its forms,

was created in 1989 by Stig Andersen, who led the Swedish band

ABBA.
