Fish Production Value in Oman Exceeds RO 226 Million by July 2022

Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman’s fish production by the end of July 2022, reached 400,115 tons, comprising a decline by 21.5% compared to the same period in 2021 when it stood at 510,020 tons, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total value of fish production increased by 2.2% to reach RO 226,465 million compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

Artisanal fishing, which constitutes the largest share of Oman’s fish production, recorded a drop by 23.3% to reach 375,992 tons by the end of July 2022 compared to 489,945 during the same period in 2021.

The Governorate of Al Wusta marked the highest fish landing through artisanal fishing as it stood at 137,382 tons, comprising a decline by 33.1% by the end of July 2022 compared to the corresponding period in 2021.

The Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah came second with production reaching 116,178 tons, constituting a drop by 25.3%. It was followed by the Governorate of South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah with a production that stood at 40,821 tons, comprising a fall by 1.6%.

Fish production through artisanal fishing in the Governorate of Muscat recorded a surge by 21.6% by the end of July 2022 as production stood at 19,578 tons compared to 16,099 tons during the same period in 2021.

The sectors of commercial fishing and coastal fishing recorded a growth by 21.8% and 8.7% respectively.

Small pelagic fishes constituted the largest share of artisanal fishing by the end of July 2022 as it stood at 193,982 tons, comprising a drop by 32.8% compared to the same period in 2021.
