Muscat, The total quantity of fish landed in the Sultanate of Oman reached 617,772 tons at the end of September 2020 compared to 513,103 tons during the same period of 2020, a rise by 20.4%, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total value of the fish stock was 284.209 million in 2021, a growth by 19% over RO 238.839 million in 2020.

The Governorate of Al Wusta marked the highest fish landing at 243,406 tons, followed by the Governorate of South A’Sharqiah at 194,908 tons, and Dhofar at 51,816 tons. The quantity of fish landed in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah was 51,259 tons, while the quantity in Musandam was 31,081 tons. The landed quantity in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 20,871 tons.

As for artisanal fish landing by species, the largest quantity of fish landed at the end of September 2021 was small pelagic fishes at 332,483 tons, compared to 278,092 tons at the end of September 2020, a rise by 19.6%. The quantity of large pelagic fish rose by 16.9% to reach 140,059 tons at the end of September 2021 compared to 119,789 tons at the end of September 2020.

The quantity of demersal fish landed reached 102,807 tons, an increase by 44% compared to the end of September 2020 when it was 71,387 tons. Meanwhile, there was a decline in the artisanal fishing quantities of crustaceans and molluscs by 16.5% to reach 9,170 tons at the end of September 2021 compared to 10,979 tons in the same period in 2020.

As for artisanal fishing of shark species, 5,569 tons were landed, compared to 4,804 tons at the end of September 2020, and the artisanal fishing of other species reached 3,253 tons.

The total quantities landed by artisanal fishing stood at 593,341 tons at the end of September 2021, and the coastal fishing amounted to 2,954 tons, while the quantities landed by commercial fishing reached 21,477 tons.
