Factions call for protest at Australia’s representative office in Ramallah against Jerusalem decision

Posted on December 22, 2018

RAMALLAH, Saturday, The Nationalist and Islamic Forces in Ramallah called on Saturday for a protest at the Australian Representative Office in Ramallah against Australian government recognition of West Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

The factions said in a statement that the protest will be held at noon on Wednesday to express the Palestinian people’s rejection of the recognition.

Australia has become one of few countries that have recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel. The United States was the first country to do that and to move its embassy there in what was described as a violation of international law that considers Jerusalem as occupied territory whose future should be determined in negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel.

The forces also called for a protest on Monday at the newly Israeli-military installed metal gate at Jalazoun refugee camp, north of Ramallah, that is blocking traffic from Ramallah north or into Ramallah and causing serious traffic congestion and long delays on alternate routes.
