Desisa, Keitany Win New York Marathon

New York, Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa won the title of the New York Marathon for the first time in his career while Kenya’s Mary Keitany won her fourth title in the streets of Manhattan.

In the men’s category, Desisa, who was among the top three in 2014, 2015 and 2017, increased his speed at the end of Sunday’s race to take the first place this time in 2:05:59.

Shura Kitata, also of Ethiopia, came in the second place in the men’s race with a time of 2:06:01. Last year’s title defender, Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor, came third with a time of 2:06:26.

In the women’s race, Keitany reached the end of the race without any competition to win her fourth title in the last five years after 2014, 2015 and 2016. She ran the course in 2:22:48.
