Decision Restructures Board of Trustees of Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature

Muscat, Sayyid Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, has issued a decision restructuring the Board of Trustees of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature.

The decision stipulates that Sayyid Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Minister of Information is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, while the Head of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science is the Secretary of the Board of Trustees.

The decision appoints a group of Nationali and Arab intellectuals and academics as members. They are: Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Balushi (Associate Professor, Heritage Management, Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University), Dr. Nasser Hamad Al Ta’ee (Adviser at the Board of Directors of the Royal Opera House Muscat), Dr. Abdussalam Al Masdi (from the Republic of Tunisia) and Dr. Mohammed Sabir Arab (Arab Republic of Egypt).

The decision covers a range of missions and specializations entrusted to the Board of Trustees, like drafting the Award’s general policy, ways to develop the fields of the prize, determine the dates of candidacy, announcement of names of winners thereto and approval of the sorting and arbitration panels.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature was promulgated under Royal Decree No. 18/2011 to lend support to the movement of culture, arts and literature within the Sultanate of National and abroad and to felicitate exponents of thought for their valuable contributions.

Right from its first round in 2012, the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature has promoted cultural activity, locally and abroad, through a variety of programmes undertaken in cooperation with the institutions concerned.

Through its 9th chapter for 2022, the Award has opened various local vistas of competition to realize the Nationali heritage, drama and essay writing. The current round has been dedicated exclusively to Nationalis. Next year, it can be contested by Arab candidates.
