Beijing, US trade protection measures may
affect the economy to some extent, but can be overcome, the Chinese
Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Geng Shuang
told news conference, "China has the confidence and ability to deal
with any external threats and shocks amid rising trade tensions
between China and the United States".
He added that the Chinese economy is maintaining steady growth
with positive momentum. He cited economic growth of 6.4 percent in
the first quarter this year, faster than expected.
"China is confident that its economy will vigorously pursue reform,
opening-up and high-quality development in line with the special
timetable and roadmap. It affirmed that the escalation of trade tensions
is not in the interest of any party and will also constrain the global
economy," he said.
