Beijing, China today announced that it has

successfully launched Gaofen-11, an optical remote sensing satellite,

as part of the country’s Earth observation project.

The Gaofen-11 satellite was launched on a Long March 4B rocket

from the Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi Province.

“This satellite is mainly used to explore the earth’s resources by

remote sensing, urban planning, road network design, agriculture and

disaster relief,” the China Science and Technology Administration said

in a statement, adding that data from the satellite would also be used

in the “Belt and Road” initiative.
