Muscat, The latest satellite images point out that the center of the tropical cyclone ‘Mekunu’ is now on 16.2-degree north and latitude 54.0 north. The cyclone continues to move towards the Sultanate’s coasts and is now about 57 km from Salalah City. The center of the cyclone is expected to cross from 8.00 pm to 12.00 midnight. The wind speed round the center is estimated between 85 to 90 knots (157-167 km/hr).
The latest analysis of the National Early Warning System points out that the cyclone continues its movement towards the Governorate of Dhofar coasts during the coming hours. Heavy rains with varying degrees continue falling on the Governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta accompanied by very strong wind and very heavy thunder rains; between 200-600 ml leading to the flooding of wadis.
The indicators point out that the center of the cyclone may cross the coasts of the Governorate of Dhofar as a first degree cyclone. The sea wave will be high on the coasts of the Governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta- between 8-12-meter high.
The sea level may be high and may enter the low-level areas. The wave will be high as well on the coasts of the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah � between 3-5 meters.
