Port Louis, The Sultanate is taking part in the 13th session of the Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which started at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre (SVICC) in the Republic of Mauritius and continues until December 1st.
The Sultanate’s delegation to the session is led by Dr. Samira al- Moosa, Permanent Delegate of the Sultanate to UNESCO and comprises representatives of the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural, the Royal Cavalry, the Royal Camels and the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (NCECS).
The Commission will consider 40 applications for the inclusion of new sites at the representative list of heritage including the camel and horse Ardha file. The file was presented by the Sultanate for inclusion at the World Intangible Heritage List.
The Committee will also consider seven nominations for inscription on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
The UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay and representatives of 24 state parties of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage participated in the meetings which were chaired by the Prithvirajsing Roopun, Minister of Arts and Culture of the Republic of Mauritius.
The Committee meets once a year to follow up the implementation of the Convention, which was ratified by 178 states.
