Canberra, The Australian government plans to
remove migrant detention centers run on Nauru Island and transfer
nearly 40 children of asylum-seekers by the end of this year.
Former Attorney General George Brandis, the current
Australian High Commissioner in Britain, has confirmed the Australian
government’s plan in an interview with BBC in London
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been under intense
political pressure for the transfer of children from Nauru, after doctors
warned of increasing mental health problems among residents of
detention centers.
About 900 asylum seekers, who arrived in Australia by boats,
were expelled since 2013 to Nauru; a small remote country to the
northeast of Australia, home to some 13,000 people.
