Al Mazyona, Al Mazyona Free Zone today received the first containerized shipment arriving directly from the port of Ningbo in China. The shipment was received in coordination with the port of Salalah through Arabian Silk Line Trading and Marine Services company.
The Port of Salalah, acting in partnership with Maersk, has launched a new multimodal transport solution for shipments to the Al Mazyona Free Zone as part of the port’s regional strategy.
Commenting on this development, Keld M. Christensen, CEO of Salalah Port, said that the new initiative is designed to streamline internal services that extend beyond the port. The services cover customs clearance and trucking services to the free zones in Salalah and Al Mazyona under the supervision of the carrier concerned.
Christensen added that the new service realizes a number of objectives. It cuts down operation time, allow access to multiple markets, supports the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman and Yemen and attracts new investors, he explained.
He pointed out that the Port of Salalah and Maersk completed the first trial shipment from China. The shipment was loaded at the Chinese port of Ningbo and delivered at Al Mazyona Free Zone within 25 days. This, he affirmed, makes Salalah the best gateway to Yemen.
