Muscat, A letter of intent has been signed in the
Beekeeping Sector between the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries,
the Public Authority for the Development of Small and Medium
Enterprises (Riyada) and the Oman- Indian Fertilizer Company
(OMIFCO), a subsidiary of OOC, and the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) on the sidelines of the Agricultural, Fish, and Food
Investment Forum, which is organized by the Sultanate on January
23rd-24th.
The signing of the agreement signifies the intention of the
participating parties to work together to develop a joint program aimed
at enhancing the value chain of bee-keeping in the Sultanate by
enhancing the capacities of small and medium enterprises in this
sector and contributing to economic diversification as a new framework
in the Sultanate, in addition to partnership between the governmental
and private sectors and FAO which would improve rural livelihoods for
Omani families.
The partnership stems from the joint management of FAO and the
Sultanate for cooperation in the areas of food security, agricultural and
rural development, OMIFCO ‘s commitment to community responsibility
and improving the quality of life of communities, and the role of Riyada
in supporting small and medium enterprises to strengthen the national
economy.
The Partnership aims to achieve the goals of sustainable
development, in particular the eradication of all kinds of poverty and
hunger all over the world, ensuring sustainable consumption and
production patterns, sustainable forest management, combating
desertification, prevention of land degradation and loss of biodiversity,
and the seventeenth objective of sustainable development, which calls
for the revitalization of the global partnership for sustainable
development.
