Muscat, The Environment Authority today signed an agreement with Middle East Scientific Equipment Corporation for a project to develop the national programme for monitoring the environment and the detection of surrounding air quality in the Sultanate.
The project comes as part of the country’s 10-Year Plan (2021-2040), the first leg in Oman Vision 2040.
The programme aims to protect the environment and human health and support sustainable development goals, besides enhancing the Sultanate’s position in international environmental indexes and data and indices of Sustainable Development Goals 2030. It incorporates the Environmental Performance Indicator and international economic competitiveness reports.
The programme also supports other priorities in Oman Vision 2040, like the priority of health, the development of governorates, scholarly research and innovation, and information to assist the government in taking objective decisions based on solid methodical grounds.
The programme will help meet the obligations set for joining regional and international conventions and the requirements of UN organisations specialized in health, environment and society issues.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and Ahmed Al Habsi, General Manager of Middle East Scientific Equipment Corporation.
