Muscat, An Agreement was signed at the

Knowledge Oasis Muscat today for the first package of the Omani

pavilion project at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will be held in Dubai from

October 20th, 2020 till April 10th, 2021.

The agreement was signed by Mohsin bin Khamis al-Balushi, Advisor

to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Commissioner General

of Sultanate of Oman at Expo 2020 Dubai, while it was signed on

behalf of Innovation Factory for Scientific Research and Development

Company by Firas bin Khamis al-Balushi, Chief Executive Officer of the

Company.

The first package of the project includes seven services related to the

Omani National pavilion and they are : preliminary design,

development, production and supervision of the story content, proposal

and installation of the Pavilion with state of art and appropriate

multimedia and technology to translate and highlight the content of the

story of the pavilion, preparation of tender documents for the

construction (second package), evaluation and analysis of bids,

supervision of the construction, furnishing and equipping of the

pavilion, and then decommissioning, removal and disposal of the

materials and the waste, in addition to the full management of the

project.

Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the

Commissioner General of Sultanate of Oman at Expo 2020 Dubai,

stated that the aim and the directions of the Main Ministerial Committee

concerned with discussing the Sultanate’s preparations for Expo 2020

Dubai Chaired by Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, Minister of Heritage

and Culture is to seek, through this important international event,

which was launched more than 167 years ago, to give young Omani

entrepreneurs and owners of specialized SMEs, especially

professionals and scientists in fields related in all stages of the

preparation journey of the participation, to be part in such event so as

to allow them to acquire knowledge and experience in special and

quality work and services such as this so that in the future they can

participate in the competition of regional and international companies

specialized in such field to provide these types of services, whether to

Omani or other participants.

He added: “We as well aim to provide Omani companies, especially

SMEs, and craftsmen, with the opportunity to benefit from direct and

indirect business opportunities which will be made available through

the participation of the Sultanate in the Expo in various aspects both

during the preparation as well the operation stages, the pavilion will

also offer an opportunity for a number of small and medium-sized

enterprises and craftsmen to offer their products and services to visitors

in the pavilion over 173-day which is the duration of the Expo”.

It should be noted that Innovation Factory for Scientific Research

and Development Company is a small and medium enterprise that

contributes to embrace inventors and innovators to implement their

innovations using advanced technologies, ranked first in the

Entrepreneurship Award as the best small-enterprise in 2017.

He added that the main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is Connecting

Minds, Creating the Future The three sub-themes will be on

“Opportunity – Mobility – Sustainability.” The Sultanate’s pavilion at the

Expo will be titled “Oman – Opportunities over Time” where it will be

linked to the main theme of the Expo and its sub-themes, the pavilion

will embody the most important achievements of civilizational and

human development achieved by the Sultanate during the glorious

reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, in addition to highlighting

the future achievements and aspirations of the Sultanate in those

subjects and areas.

Hassan bin Mohammed Bin Ali al-Lawati, Advisor to the Minister of

Heritage and Culture for Heritage Affairs, Deputy Commissioner-

General of the Sultanate Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, said that Omani

participation in this event will be distinct and different from previous

participations.

He added that Sultanate’s pavilion architectural design is inspired

from frankincense tree and its historical link with human being and the

Omani heritage. He pointed out that the building represents and

embodies the frankincense tree. It stands on a central trunk where the

visitor experience begins. Inside the display areas, the exterior facades

of the pavilion are similar in design to the branches of the frankincense

tree in its ripples. The idea of the pavilion’s exterior design is combined

in a contemporary, virtual way with the inner content centered around

frankincense, where the main theme of the story of the Pavilion, as the

frankincense tree has historically acquired an enormous presence that

made it a bridge of communication between the civilizations of the

ancient world more than 5,000 years ago.

Commercial caravans for frankincense traveled on different routes

and that corresponds exactly and absolutely with the main Theme of

EXPO 2020 Dubai), as well as its three sub-themes (opportunity –

mobility – sustainability).

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ali bin Masoud al-

Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Member of the Main

Ministerial Committee concerned with discussing the Sultanate’s

preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai, Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda al-

Said, Assistant Secretary General for Innovation Development at The

Research Council and a number of official at the public and private

sectors.
