Muscat, The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, represented by the Directorate General of Metrology said that the precious stone lab at the Ministry has checked 985 samples for precious stones including diamond, polished and raw precious stones in 2018 compared to 979 samples in 2017. The Ministry added that the samples were collected from Omanis, residents and precious stone importers.
It affirmed that the test shows the name, type, weight and color of the stone. It also shows whether it has been subject to any treatment, the level of quality and whether the stone is fracture, abrasion or other defect-free or not. The test will show whether the stone is natural or artificial.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry urged traders who buy precious stones to ensure having the stone card, as stipulated at article No 7 of the Royal Decree 109/2000. They should also ensure that the sale invoice includes all the details about the stone very clearly.
