Paris, Nearly 60% of people speaking

French are living in Africa, according to a study published by the

French Language Observatory of the International Organization of la

Francophonie.

The Observatory revealed that the number of French

speakers is 300 million, representing since 2014 an increase of 10%

globally and 17% in Africa. The French language ranked fifth in the

world after Chinese, English, Spanish and Arabic.

The study found that Moliere language is strongly present in

the media and the web. It is ranked fourth in overall Internet usage

while it is in the forefront of channels, such as TV5 MONDE, which is

present in more than 200 countries. French is also the preferred

language of some international media, such as the European channels

Euronews, BBC News, the Chinese channel CGTN and the Russian

channel RT.
